Programs for girls and young women, Grades 1 - 12, as well as Espressa Women's Choir!
Dolce choristers gather once a week to develop foundational musicianship skills and build friendships through the Kodály approach, which uses traditional children’s folk songs, art songs, nursery rhymes, and movement games. No experience is needed to join Dolce – just a love of singing!
Viva choristers enjoy a program designed to advance their musical skills and build a wide and varied range of repertoire. They meet once a week to focus on the development of vocal technique and musicianship through artistic interpretation and performance.
Brava is for young women in Grades 7 -12. They meet weekly for a three-hour rehearsal where they work on tone quality, articulation, expression, diction, musicality, vocal support, solfège, and musical literacy while learning a varied repertoire of music.
Espressa is open to Calgary Girls Choir alumnae and all women interested in creating beautiful music together. Choristers can expect vocal training, musicianship, diverse choral repertoire and a welcoming community of women dedicated to learning and creative expression.
Played a bit of prelude organ music for the Calgary Girls Choir this afternoon. All the choirs sounded MAGICAL. In past years I’ve sometimes accompanied the choirs with one or two pieces on organ, which was exciting. This year I played two audience carols and played an organ prelude while audience members came in. The choirs sound even more magical in the space of Knox sanctuary. They fill the sound space like no other choir I’ve heard in there! Their director Elaine Quilichini knows how to bring out their amazing voices!
